I’m thinking about cutting my long locks into a chin-length bob. What should I consider before making the cut?

There are so many ways to cut a bob, and the most flattering style varies by the person it’s on. The length of the bob that will look the best depends primarily on the face and body. A person with an oval-, heart- or square-shaped face should opt for a shorter bob, while a person with a longer face should cut her bob chin-length. For a curvier woman, her bob should be styled more loosely to accentuate her body’s natural curves, while a thinner woman can pull off a style that’s cut more closely to her head.

Another way to customize your new hairstyle is with bangs and layers. Layering your hair and creating bangs is like writing a story; tailor your look to how you want to tell your own personal tale. One size certainly will not fit all!

Again, consider your face shape when determining your best look. For instance, round face shapes look great with longer, side-swept bangs, while square face shapes look better with a blunt fringe that’s cut across the top of the brow bone. You should also take into consideration how you want to style it (curly, straight or spiky). Work with your stylist to get the best cut for your hair texture.

Taking your hair from long to short is a drastic and exciting change, and it will change more than just your outward appearance. You won’t need to spend as much time styling your hair and you’ll likely feel more liberated with shorter cut. And know that it will always grow back!
