Go Bold With Burgundy Lips

Making a big impact, wine-colored lips have been spotted on the red carpet and beyond. Celebrity makeup artist Victoria Stiles gives her tips on how to best pull it off. “Burgundy is most definitely a neutral,” says Stiles. “It works on all skin tones, ranging from fair to ebony.”

How to Apply Burgundy Lip Color
For a stain effect, Stiles recommends applying the lip color with your fingertips by pressing the color into the pout of your lips. This gives a more natural look. Or, apply lip color using a lip brush for more of a dramatic matte finish.

Coordinating Eyes and Cheeks
Since the focus is on the lips, applying too much eye makeup can compete with your lipstick shade, leaving your look overdone, says Stiles. To keep the eyes soft, apply a soft brown or bone shade to the top lid with a thin liner to the top lash line only; lighter skin tones should stick with brown, and those with darker skin should opt for brown/black shades. Finish the eye look with mascara on only the top lashes. For cheeks, use a cream neutral-based peach or pinkish shade, or a bronzing powder as an alternative.
